March 2015 - Pulled shoes
(Left) right front (Right) right hind. This horse was shod in front and kept bare behind.
The left photos are pre trim after pulling shoes. The right photos are post trim. I took advantage of the dirt impressions from weight bearing to check the balance of this foot. The blue lines encompass the overall dirt impressions and the pink lines encompass the concentrated areas of weight bearing.
Photos 1-4 are from March 2015. Photo 4 is from April 2015.
February 2016 - This hoof capsule was straightened out over the course of one year with out any top dressing. The increased width is achieved by keeping the wall unloaded so it would grow in thicker. To unload the wall you have to bevel the wall to the peripheral edge of the sole. This reduced the diameter of the distal end of this hoof capsule by about a half inch at every trim but resulted in thicker structures over time. This is not a quick fix but it's the right way to increase hoof size.
