July 2020 - This horse has been on a 3 week trim schedule for about 7 months. Her feet were previously over grown and had a lot of dead sole, frog and wall horn with underdeveloped live tissue. This is what we have achieved so far...after seven months of 3 week corrective trims to build soft tissue and live sole. At this trim there was an abundance of dead retained sole that was ready to exfoliate and reveal the newly developed calloused live sole ( dirt stained layer where the green arrow is pointing ). There is still a section of the collateral grooves on the lateral side of the foot near the tip of the frog that is undefined ( red arrow on next slide), indicating an area of the live calloused sole that isn’t fully developed yet ( due to previous lateral toe pillar loading and the internal arch development being incomplete ). This is about as aggressive as I get removing retained dead sole around the tip of the frog but I never trim calloused live sole or go any deeper than the bottom of the collateral grooves.

In my opinion, the red lines are the incorrect ways to address the heels. The blue lines are the correct way to properly align the heel horn with their growth origins.
