August 2021 - This is probably the fourth or fifth trim for this mare. She is pigeon toed on the fronts and base narrow on the hinds. She hasn’t liked to be caught, hold her feet up for very long, or stick around. This was her second at liberty trim where she was free to go in a 5 acre dry pasture. Her first at liberty trim was in a stall with an outdoor run. Not so many pics of this one for obvious reasons.

Just interesting to see how the peripheral edge of the sole, the inner wall, and the outer wall align in these ellipses ( true solar view they’d be concentric circles, with the frog interrupting ). The red arrow points to an area in the outer wall that doesn’t fill out the circle in the pre trim pic. The foot is more balanced in the post trim pic. The longer the trim cycle, the greater the distortion. This may seem pretty insignificant, but if not corrected it becomes more pronounced. Even the slightest imbalance in the feet affects the whole horse. The greater the precision, the greater the performance and the less chance there is for injury. It’s possible to build a horse from the ground up and make every step work for the horse instead of against them.
5 months progress for the same foot in the previous photos with the mark ups. Correcting the crookedness is more obvious over 5 months time but continual progress relies on being able to assess which direction the foot is going in at every trim. Details become very important and they get smaller as you pay closer attention.

June 2025 - I’m so grateful that Marlene has been trimming Fancy for the past year. It’s great to see her feet still looking so good and pretty fun to trim her again and follow behind Marlene’s excellent work after a long time off.
4 years progress on Fancy’s Right Front. The middle pic is 5 months after starting her rehab.
