Dakota (dbL)
Dakota is a quarterhorse gelding who was 10 years old when his owner asked me if I could rehab him. He was diagnosed with navicular and a fractured short pastern bone. He was in steel shoes and his hoof capsules were really crooked and twisted away from his pedal bones. That’s what I believe caused the fracture. He was working at an equine assisted therapy facility and scheduled to be euthanized, but one of the therapists asked if they could have him and try to fix him. She called me and we got to work on it. I pulled his shoes, gave him a set up corrective trim, and fitted him with some Cloud boots. It wasn’t too many trims before he was galloping around her property with the other horses. She moved back Illinois a year later and found a HCP to continue his care.
